Assembly Member Mark Isherwood pledged his support to create more Dementia Friendly Communities in North Wales at an event held in Cardiff this week by Alzheimer’s Society.
The event at the Wales Millennium Centre brought together people living with dementia and AMs, and also received support from Welsh football pundit and former Wales international footballer Robbie Savage.
Robbie, who lost his dad, Colin, aged 64 to Pick’s disease (a form of dementia) in 2012, sent a message of support for the event, saying:
“I’m a proud Ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society and pleased to support this important programme of work in Wales. In the absence of a cure for dementia, building Dementia Friendly Communities can make a huge difference to lives of people living with the condition. A little understanding and compassion can go a long way to making life a little easier.”
Mr Isherwood said: “As a Dementia Friend myself, it was great to meet people living with dementia and Dementia Friends from North Wales, and to see some of the work already underway in Wales to build Dementia Friendly Communities. I want to see more done in the years ahead to make North Wales dementia friendly.”
