North Wales Assembly Member Mark Isherwood has criticised UKIP Assembly Group Leader Neil Hamilton for breaking his Party’s promise to the people of North Wales over spending on an M4 relief road in south Wales.

UKIP's Assembly election manifesto backed the cheaper "blue" route, to relieve congestion around Newport, but this week Mr Hamilton has offered Labour his Party's support to for the more expensive “black” route.

Mr Isherwood said:

“We are only a couple of weeks in to this 5th Assembly, yet UKIP are already breaking promises. “UKIP’s Manifesto clearly backed the cheaper “blue route” and UKIP candidates pledged to oppose the “black route” at election hustings held across North Wales, yet only a few weeks on they have broken their word and are now offering to support the £1.1bn “black route” - it is shameful and I only hope this isn’t the first of many broken promises.”

Mr Isherwood added:

“I agree that investment in M4 relief is required, but there is a cheaper option and investment in this project should not be at the expense of much-needed investment on the A55, which has suffered from under-investment and congestion for far too long .”
