North Wales MS Mark Isherwood joined staff and volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay this week to mark the charity’s annual Coffee Morning fundraising event.
The event was an opportunity to find out more about how Macmillan in Wales is supporting people living with cancer, as well as meeting with inspirational Macmillan volunteers, fundraisers and professionals.
This year the official event date for the coffee morning is Friday 26th September 2025, but a Coffee Morning can be held on any day and anywhere you want.
Each year Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning brings people from across the UK together to share delicious food and drink and raise money to support people living with cancer.
2025 marks a special year as the charity’s flagship fundraiser celebrates its 35th birthday. Over the years, Coffee Morning has raised an incredible £352 million for people living with cancer.
Whether it’s bringing your best bakes into the office, a chai afternoon or a picnic in the park with your mates, you can host your Coffee Morning any way and anywhere you want. Whether you raise a little or a lot, you’ll be part of something amazing, helping more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer.
The number of people living with cancer in the UK has surged to almost 3.5 million, with 190,000 in Wales.
At the event, Mr Isherwood was pleased to meet with North Wales Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Speaking afterwards, he said:
“The news of a cancer diagnosis can be devastating, and it is a sad fact that one in two of us will face cancer in our lifetime.
“I’m proud to help support Macmillan’s coffee morning, and to help let people know about that this important fundraising event. I would encourage anyone to get involved, and to sign up to organise a Coffee Morning or contribute to a local coffee morning in the way that suits them best.”

Every penny raised at a Coffee Morning helps Macmillan to provide support for people with cancer, who need it now more than ever. This could include:
£30 could help run our Online Community forum for 1 hour. In this time, 80 people affected by cancer in the UK can give emotional and practical support to each other on anything to do with cancer – from treatments, to coping with everyday life, to the death of a loved one.[i]
- £65 could pay for 100 copies of The Cancer Guide. This Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer and their families, understand more about cancer, its treatment, and the help available.[ii]
- £147 could pay for a Macmillan Information and Support Assistant for 1 day, giving people living with cancer the opportunity to ask questions and talk through their concerns.[iii]
