Thank you for contacting me regarding ensuring that all students learn lifesaving CPR.
CPR has been a part of the Curriculum for Wales since it was introduced in 2022. However, new research commissioned by the Resuscitation Council UK this year uncovered worrying gaps in CPR education in UK secondary schools.
Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by as much as 10%, with early CPR capable of almost doubling a person’s likelihood of survival. Therefore, with just 1 in 20 currently surviving out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Wales, it is imperative that a greater proportion of the Welsh population are equipped with this life-saving skill and knowledge.
My Welsh Conservative colleagues and I will continue to monitor the situation and work to ensure that children will learn the lifesaving skill of CPR.
Once again, thank you for contacting me.
