Thank you for contacting me regarding the impact of cuts to winter fuel payments on pensioners.
Most pensioners lost their winter fuel allowance last year when the Labour UK Government began means testing the payment, leaving hundreds of thousands of Welsh pensioners without as much as £300 a year – taking more than £110 million from our elderly here in Wales.
I believe this is deeply wrong, especially given that the Labour Government here in Wales is preparing to spend over £120 million to expand the Senedd and bring more politicians to Cardiff Bay - the Labour Party have the wrong priorities.
We Welsh Conservatives would create a Welsh Winter Fuel Allowance to plug the gap, paid for by cutting wasteful spending by the Welsh Government and ending the alarming growth of central administration costs.
My colleagues and I will continue to make this case to the Welsh Government.
