Rhyl school children were given the opportunity to learn more about the National Assembly for Wales and devolution this week when they were visited by North Wales Assembly Member Mark Isherwood.
Mr Isherwood, accompanied by Member of the Welsh Youth Parliament for the Vale of Clwyd, Jonathan Dawes, gave a talk and answered questions at Ysgol Bryn Hedydd Primary School as part of UK Parliament Week.
In its ninth year UK Parliament Week is an annual festival that engages people from across the UK with their UK Parliament, explores what it means to them and empowers them to get involved.
Mr Isherwood said:
“It was a real pleasure to spend time with the young people at Ysgol Bryn Hedydd and to explain to them how politics works at UK level and devolved level. They showed a keen interest in politics and current affairs and asked some very interesting questions about my role as an Assembly Member, politics in general and a number of local issues.
“Our young people are our future and our democracy will only work if both current and future members of the electorate exercise their hard won right to hold politicians to account and to vote".
Member of the Welsh Youth Parliament for the Vale of Clwyd, Jonathan Dawes, a former Ysgol Bryn Hedydd pupil, said: “I really enjoyed visiting Ysgol Bryn Hedydd in my constituency with North Wales regional Assembly Member Mark Isherwood as part of Parliament Week. Mark gave an informative speech on his work as an AM and the collective work of the National Assembly for Wales. I thank him for coming in with me and answering a variety questions from pupils and staff as well as supporting my ongoing work as a Welsh Youth Parliament Member”.
