Welsh Conservative Spokesperson for Europe, Mark Isherwood AM, has challenged the First Minister this week over Jeremy Corbyn’s statement that the issue of Brexit is settled.
Questioning Carwyn Jones in the Assembly Chamber yesterday, he said:
“Although Jeremy Corbyn has joined the Conservatives in saying he wants Brexit to deliver a fairer society and an upgraded economy, we recognise there are tough negotiations ahead. How, therefore, do you respond to his statement that the issue of Brexit is settled?”
In his response the First Minister said: “In terms of the question, it is settled, because Britain is leaving the EU and that question has already been answered. What I don’t see, however, is any semblance of any kind of plan from the UK Government.”
Mr Isherwood added “Classic ‘Carwynian’ diversionary tactics again, when his Leader, Labour’s candidate to be Prime Minister, said ‘this election isn’t about Brexit itself, that issue has been settled’. Everyone will pay if Jeremy Corbyn ends up in in charge of Brexit, with fewer jobs, higher taxes, more debt and a less secure future.”
