North Wales Assembly Member Mark Isherwood is backing an appeal to help save the lives of more people with cancer across Wales.
Mr Isherwood has lent his support to Cancer Research UK’s ‘Wales vs Cancer’ campaign.
The campaign asks AMs to back vital measures to improve early diagnosis to ensure all patients have quick access to vital cancer tests, and screening programmes are improved with better tests and more people taking part. It is important that cancers are diagnosed earlier in Wales - the earlier a person’s cancer is diagnosed, the better chance they have of successful treatment.
Thanks to research, survival rates have doubled in the UK in the last forty years. But with more and more people being diagnosed, Cancer Research UK says determined political action is urgently needed to save more lives.
Mr Isherwood said: “We must not underestimate the devastating impact that cancer will have on families in North Wales now and in the future. The good news is cutting-edge research carried out by charities like Cancer Research UK is turning the tables on the disease, but it is clear there is a critical role for politicians to play in helping to detect cancer earlier.
“The political drive to beat cancer must match the pace of progress in research. That’s why I’m backing the ‘Wales vs Cancer’ campaign and joining the fight to beat cancer sooner.”
