North Wales Assembly Member Mark Isherwood has praised a Mobile Support Unit for cancer patients and their loved ones after visiting it when it arrived in North Wales for the first time last week.

The Tenovus Mobile Support Units have been bringing cancer treatment and support closer to home since 2009.

On Friday it arrived in St Asaph, its first visit to North Wales.

The purpose of the visit was to showcase the Mobile Support Unit to clinical staff and supporters of Tenovus Cancer Care in North Wales.

The charity is hopeful that the unit might be used for mobile chemotherapy in North Wales in the near future.

Mr Isherwood said:

“It was great to visit the Tenovus Cancer Care Mobile Unit on its first visit to North Wales on Friday. This fantastic unit provides treatment, health and well-being support and prevention services.

“It was great to hear and speak to their Llandudno Choir and to have a chance to thank everyone at Tenovus for their great work.

“Being able to have treatment in a friendly and welcoming environment, without the stress and expense of having to travel a long way to hospital, makes a real difference to cancer patients and their loved ones. Hopefully we will be seeing much more of the unit in North Wales in the future.”

Richard Pugh, Tenovus Cancer Care Head of Innovation and Services, said:

“We were delighted to welcome Mark Isherwood AM on board the Mobile Support Unit so he could see how being able to receive treatment in the heart of the community makes a real difference to cancer patients. Nothing can make having chemotherapy easy, but we know that being able to have treatment on board our Mobile Support Unit means that patients can spend less time travelling and more time with the people they love, and that is very valuable.”
