Thank you for your correspondence concerning the proposed installation of pylons through Wales’s National Parks.
While Welsh Conservatives are supportive of small-scale renewable energy initiatives, such as wind turbines erected by family farms for personal or community use, I strongly oppose the development of large-scale industrial wind farms and the associated pylon infrastructure within our National Parks. Such proposals pose a serious threat to the natural beauty of our countryside.
These plans would significantly alter our landscapes and could have a profoundly negative impact on Wales’s tourism sector and the many hospitality businesses that rely on it. Consequently, any new energy transmission infrastructure should be installed underground by default, not merely as a “preferred” option.
Beyond the visual intrusion, there are valid concerns regarding safety, potential health implications, and the inevitable disruption to local wildlife and habitats.
It is essential that we explore a full range of renewable energy sources. Offshore wind should be prioritised, along with greater investment in hydroelectric and tidal energy schemes.
Please be assured that we will be raising this matter in the Senedd to ensure that the voices of our communities are heard. We must not allow the Welsh Labour Government to jeopardise our natural heritage or undermine our vital tourism industry.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to get in touch.
